Iron Filings - For Magnet Experiments - 3 ozs. Everyone remembers the demonstration from school... The teacher would get out a magnet, put a piece of paper on top, then pour some iron filings on the paper. A few careful shakes and - Voila! - the magnetic field outlines became visible! Well now you can experiment with magnetic fields as well. With magnetic filings, a magnetic field can be viewed in 2 or 3 dimensions. Here is an exmple. Start by taking a rod magnet and place it on end. Then cut a piece of paper about 4 inches across. Next, carefully sprinkle filings on top of the paper and magnet. Eventually, the filing will align along the fields of force in both 2 and 3 dimensions as shown: When finished, simply pull opposite ends of the paper up, grab the magnet where it meets the paper and pull the magnet away and keep the filings for another day! Here's a hint, place your magnet in a sandwich bag before you use your filings. That way you keep your magnet free of VERY hard to remove filings! Magnetic filings, loads of fun! Buy a bottle today!
